Samsung Electronics is making Qualcomm's next flagship chipset Snapdragon 865 as reported by Korea. The last chipsets created by Samsung for Qualcomm were the Snapdragon 820 and 835. Samsung and Qualcomm took a gap of one year in 2018, during which the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) built the Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 855 for Qualcomm.
According to the report, Samsung may start manufacturing the Snapdragon 865 by the end of 2019, with the chipset 7nm to be built on an ultra-violet (EUV) process. While this technology was first used in manufacturing by TSMC in the year 2018, Qualcomm believes that Samsung's technology is more advanced than TSMC.
According to sources, the Snapdragon 865 is also expected to come in two versions, of which the standard version and the other is equipped with Snapdragon X55 5G chipset. This will be the first chipset Samsung will manufacture for Qualcomm using the EUV process. The Snapdragon 845 was built by Samsung using the 10 nm process.
Samsung is also using this manufacturing process on its own Exynos chips, which will make the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 more powerful.
According to a report by GSMArena, the IBM company has also selected Samsung's 7 nm EUV foundries for the next generation power processor. While TSMC has lost the contract for the new Qualcomm flagship chipset, the company is reportedly already manufacturing Apple A13 and Kirin 985 chipsets.
