Narendra Nath Sen Gupta (23 December 1889 – 13 June 1944)
Narendra Nath Sen Gupta was an Indian psychologist, philosopher, and professor educated at Harvard University. He is recognized as the founder of modern psychology in India along with Indian scientist Gunmudian David Boaz. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Department of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the Indian Science Congress Association in 1923. Sen Gupta was also the founder of the Indian Psychological Association and the editor and founder of “Indian Journal of Psychology”, the first official psychology journal in India.
H. Narayana Murthy (1924-2011)
Hosur Narayana Murthy was the head of the Department of Clinical Psychology at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, along with being an Indian psychologist, writer, philosopher, Sanskrit scholar and teacher. He is credited with introducing clinical neuropsychology and behavioral therapy in India. Apart from this, he has also contributed to classify mental disorders by clinical psychology. He has been awarded the “Bhabha Memorial Gold Medal” of the Best Scholar for his credit in philosophy and psychology.
Ashish Nandi (born 1937)
Ashish Nandi is an Indian political and clinical psychologist, social theorist and critic. He has provided theoretical reviews of European colonialism, development, modernity, secularism, science, technology, nuclearism and utopia. In addition, he has offered a basic outline of India's commercial cinema and violence. Nandi has been awarded the Fukuoka Asian Culture Award in 2007 and has also ranked in the Top 100 Public Intelligence Magazine list of Foreign Policy magazine published by “The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace” in 2008.
